Meckelfeld's "New Centre" is underway - with large strides. The starting signal for the new construction of the residential and shopping centre in Glüsinger Strasse in Seevetal-Meckelfeld has been given. The building construction has begun. Today, in the presence of a large number of representatives from the fields of politics, business and administration, the traditional laying of the foundation stone took place on the building site. On the 21,000 square metre plot Erste Grundstücksverwaltungsgesellschaft Meckelfeld mbH, a subsidiary of Deutsche Immobilien Holding AG, will construct a speciality shopping centre for retailers and doctors' surgeries at a cost of 24 million euros.

 

Tenants will include the food markets EDEKA and ALDI, the chemist's Budnikowsky and the textile discounter Kik - on an area of over 8,000 square metres. The new speciality shopping centre offers retailers the opportunity here of providing for their customers in a new, modern and central collective environment. 

 

More than 2,000 square metres are to be used for generously designed offices and doctors' surgeries, which will profits from the central location and the high visitor frequency expected. Lifts provide easy access to all storeys within the facility. Around the new building, as well as in the basement garage, comfortable parking spaces will be available free of charge. Another aspect allowed for in the planning is the possibility of a suburban railway station in the immediate vicinity. "We look forward to welcoming the citizens of Meckelfeld to this new meeting-place. This will really give the community a new centre,“ said Harald Mohr, authorized signatory. The completion date and opening ceremony have been scheduled for the late summer of 2009.

 

More than 50 invited guests attended today's traditional laying of the foundation stone at midday on the site in Glüsinger Strasse. These included representatives from the fields of politics, business and administration, employees of the firms charged with the task of construction and future tenants. Seevetal's mayor, Günter Schwarz, took another look back at the years that have passed since the planning phase and expressed his best wishes for the new speciality market centre.
