Essen has its trade fair hotel
The ATLANTIC Congress Hotel Essen was opened in January 2010. The first guests were able to check in to the new congress and seminar hotel - located next to the Grugahalle - in good time for the start of the Cultural-Capital Year.
The hotel, which has been categorized as "four-star superior", is one of the largest establishments in the Ruhr area, with 248 rooms, of which 17 are suites or junior suites. Travellers with high expectations have a Club Floor of their own with a separate Club Lounge at their disposal. "With our multifunctional rooms for organized events catering for up to 730 persons, Essen and the region at last has the eagerly awaited conference capacity,“ said Hotel Director Marion Hagemeier. "And given the neighbouring trade-fair grounds of Messe Essen and the Grugahalle, it will be a true win-win situation for everyone involved."
Apart from the "CUXX" Restaurant, with its fine regional and international specialities and outside catering as in the bar, the inhabitants of Essen and their guests also have a bistro, a generously sized smoking lounge and a wine cellar to choose from. On the uppermost storey, which provides access to the roof terrace, there is also the large fitness and wellness area with sauna occupying some 250 square metres. A basement garage is also available.
The facility will be run by the hotel operating company Zech Hotels GmbH, which is registered in Erkrath. This already operates the Holiday Inn Essen City Centre in Frohnhauser Straße. The hotel business creates around 80 jobs. Tenders for the construction of the hotel had previously been invited from throughout Europe. The sound construction and operating concept presented by the Bremen-registered Zech Group, however, won the order. The building was erected in less than 12 months. The short, six-month phase of structural work employed a just-in-time delivery system. The investment sum was around 30 million euros.
