As from the autumn of 2008 the Bremen-based Zech Group is to construct a new hotel at the trade fair in Essen. The business group is also to run the hotel.

After inviting tenders from throughout Europe for the construction of a hotel next to the Grugahalle, the supervisory board of the Essen trade fair awarded the contract to Zech Group for its convincing construction and operating concept. The construction work is expected to begin in the autumn of this year. Completion and opening of the 30 million euro new construction is planned for the end of 2009.

The facility will in future be run by Zech Group's hotel-operating company in Erkrath. Zech Hotels GmbH already runs the Essen City Centre Holiday Inn in Frohnhauser Strasse.

The new hotel in the Four-Star-Plus category will have about 250 rooms, a large conference area, a restaurant, a bar and a Wellness oasis. The concept also envisages a roof garden, as well as underground transport to the Grugahalle. The hotel, which will be completed in time for the Year of the Cultural Capital of Essen 2010, will help to support not only Essen as a trade-fair location, but also the Ruhr economic region as a whole.
